These are easy and fun crafts to do with your kids for Halloween with things from the Dollar Tree, but BEWARE – These crafts can get messy. Especially with the food coloring.

I found these craft jars with lids at the Dollar Tree and knew that they would be perfect for creating these spooky Halloween decor pieces.
With the first jar, I wanted to make fingers. I used baby carrots and my X-Acto knife to cut out a fingernail and knuckle creases. I used red nail polish to emphasize the details and put hot glue over the fingernail so it would be harder for the nail polish to soak off.
I added the carrots to the jars with water, vegetable oil and food coloring. Choose any color dye you like. Creepy, but cool!
Next, I used spaghetti noodles for “worms” and added green food coloring. I also used cauliflower for the “brains” and added red food coloring.

These all turned out really cool and they looked great stacked on top of books on my kitchen island for our Halloween party. I would not recommend keeping these out for a while in case the jar leaks with the food inside. Mine did not leak, but it depends on how much you put into the jar and what you put inside. You can also put plastic eyeballs in there, plastic spiders and such and you will not have to worry about it spoiling. I just used what I had on hand. 🙂
